TITLE: Stay All The Way AUTHOR: aRcaDIaNFall$ FEEDBACK: arcadianfalls@yahoo.com.au RATING: G SPOILERS: Existence CLASSIFICATION: poem, MSR SUMMARY: Post-Existence in poem format. AUTHORS NOTE: Before I wrote 'Blessing' I'd planned my Existence post-ep to be in poem format. That hit a dead end and I went ahead with Blessing, but with an overhaul the poem ended up quite presentable and I thought I'd go ahead and post it. I've never posted an XF poem before, though, and I'd love to know what people think... just be kind, please. :] It's got a different sort of rhythm that you need to pick up. --> http://www.geocities.com/arcadianfalls/ Stay All The Way by aRcaDIaNFall$ He came around to visit us just the other day - So shy, so nervous, not knowing what to say. I just smiled and gave him what was his; He cradled his son and surprised me with a kiss. So long in the coming, we'd danced round the line, But there was no pretending now that he wasn't mine. His lips as soft and gentle as I'd ever dared to dream, Such a sweet few seconds, though how short they did seem. The baby cried. He frowned and pulled away, Murmuring words of comfort to keep the tears at bay. Though awkwardly he held the bundle, a smile graced my face Despite his flaws and failings I would have no one take his place. "Rock him," I suggested, with a light touch on his arm. He nodded, and whispered to his son, "I'll keep you safe from harm." The tiny fingers reached, the little mouth stretched wide, A baby yawn, his deep blue eyes, no secrets there to hide. Another yawn, and sleep was near, his father's delight unmasked; This was all and and then some more than he had ever asked. I knew how he felt: it was what had swallowed my past two days, The simple captivating power of our son's innocent gaze. The baby slept, his father rocked, while I just stood in wonder Loving the confidence, the certainty that neither of us would blunder. All bets were off, the truth acknowledged with a smile, Absolutely no fear or doubt this wasn't worth the while. I led him to my bedroom; he placed the baby down with care, Tucked blankets up around him and paused a moment to stare. Across the crib I smiled again, so touched by his gentle love, My eyes squeezed closed a brief second as I thanked my God above. We tiptoed out, back in the light, and in wary silence settled down, "You know I love you," he began, head ducked as he waited for my frown. "I always have. You've been my world. I should have acted before-" But I shook my head to reassure him, before he could say more. "We've had our conflicts, Mulder, and we've lost and hurt a lot, But I'm looking past the pain to the beauty that we've got." I smiled, kneeling by his feet, my hands clasped on his knee. "My Mulder and my baby boy... That's plenty enough for me." His hand touched mine, a kiss planted in my hair, "I love you too," I whispered, a resolution then and there. I rose, a hand held out to him, and I asked him "Will you stay?" He lifted his gaze and smiled at me, and he answered "All the way." fin.
